El Demerdash qualified as a lawyer in 1981, focusing on shipping disputes in the Red Sea region. He initially trained at a major shipping agency before joining Eldib Advocates in 1986. Since then, he has led the Suez office, where he has built a reputation as a trusted negotiator with the Suez Canal Authority and a leading expert in Suez Canal-related disputes. His regional expertise extends to handling cases across the ports of Suez, Sokhna, Adabiya, Hurghada, Safaga, and Sharm El Sheikh. He is also highly skilled in ship arrest procedures and adept at navigating governmental authorities to secure favorable outcomes for clients. El Demerdash remains a key figure in maritime, customs, and IP law, providing practical, results-driven solutions to complex disputes in one of the world’s most strategic waterways.
Sayed El Demerdash is a Senior Counsel at Eldib Advocates and the Head of the Suez Office. With over four decades of experience, he specializes in shipping and transport litigation, customs disputes, and intellectual property enforcement related to imported goods. His expertise spans customs infringements, smuggling cases, counterfeit cargo disputes, and IP rights violations.
El Demerdash has handled a wide range of marine incidents, including salvage, pollution, collisions, and groundings. His strategic approach has been instrumental in resolving some of the most significant maritime cases in the region, including the pollution case of the vessel "LANAI" in 1987, the "Arab Wender" grounding in 1998, the collision of "Husar III" with a petroleum platform in 2001, and the "GRIGOROUSSA 1" oil pollution incident in the Suez Canal in 2006, one of the largest of its kind.
