Hamdy is highly experienced in mediation and alternative dispute resolution, taking a practical approach to negotiations and settlements. He is a regular contributor to MARINEWS and the Egyptian Maritime Society Magazine, sharing insights on evolving maritime legal issues.

His international client portfolio includes P&I clubs, shipowners, charterers, freight forwarders, and insurance companies. Additionally, Hamdy serves as the legal counsel for the Egyptian Navigation Company and is a Board Member of the Egyptian Maritime Society.

Hamdy Madkour is a Partner at Eldib Advocates and leads the Shipping Department. With a legal career spanning decades, he has been practicing maritime law since 1976. Before joining Eldib Advocates in 1989, Hamdy worked at Misr Insurance, gaining valuable experience in marine insurance and transport litigation.

Hamdy specializes in all aspects of Shipping Law, including marine insurance, shipping and transport litigation, arbitration, and vessel arrests. He has extensive experience handling disputes involving bills of lading, charter parties, customs, and insurance policy claims. His expertise extends to major maritime incidents, including pollution, collisions, groundings, salvage, and general average cases.

He has played a key role in resolving some of Egypt’s most significant maritime incidents, including:

  • The M/V GANZA collision with Damietta terminal (1993)

  • The Baltiyskie Zori pollution in the Tiran Straits (1994)

  • The Royal Viking Sun grounding (1996)

  • The Samedon pollution case in the Suez Canal (2006), one of the largest pollution cases worldwide
